It’s hardly surprising that many say it can’t be done – but that has not deterred the four driving a huge pedalo by their own muscle power around the coats of Scotland, on a circular course which started on Friday 1st August, through the Caledonian Canal.

Yesterday, 4th August, they completed the passage through the Canal, often in murky weather and cleared Corpach, west of Fort William and the Corran Narrows.

As the photographs record, I followed it from Banavie, through Neptune’s Staircase and out to Corpach, then down Loch Linnhe to the Corran Narrows.

They left Corpach at 14.00 and got to Corran at about 16.30 -  and stopped off there. The plan is to go through the Sound of Mull – probably with a stop off at Oban – and head up through  The Minches to Cape Wrath and across the North Coast, wiht the Pentland Firth’s rip tides, before turning south at John o’Groats for the east coast leg.

It’s going to be along and tough haul.

There is a film crew with them – one camera on the safety boat  – a RIB you can see with the Nessie-like pedalo at the Corran ferry – and another on land.

They’re still at Argour/Corran as of lunchtime today, 5th August.

The 500-Mile Pedalo is the first attempt to circumnavigate Scotland by pedalo. Unsurprisingly, it’s never been done = but that’s a position  Ed Foster, Natasha Kirby, Nicholas Kirby and Sholto Morgan aim to change in their combined effort to raise £250,000a for two great British charities: Cancer Research UK and Parkinson’s UK .

The 4 brave individuals are pedalo -ing from Inverness, down the Caledonian Canal, through Loch Ness and Loch Lochy and out into the Irish Sea. From there they will head north, towards the north coast of Scotland. There is more information on the voyage on the Cancer Research UK website here.
